Another night of honoring movies’ best, the Oscars 2011. The event was hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. The actors and actresses started to arrive on the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre at 7pm. The show officially started at 8pm EST. Wolfgang Puck served all 1,500 guests, this being his 17th year. The Academy Awards or more popularly known as the Oscars is the most prestigious awards of the movie industry. It was televised in some 200 countries and millions tuned in to watch the ceremony and waited in anticipation if their favorites went home with the Oscars.

Colin Firth was hailed Oscars Best Actor in a Leading Role for the movie The King’s Speech. He played King George VI of Britain. The King’s Speech bagged a total of four Oscars including Best in Directing, Best Picture, and Original Screenplay.

Another equally brilliant film (which I assumed to win the most coveted Best Picture) is Inception. The movie was awarded in Cinematography, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects. Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, both from the movie The Fighter were awarded Oscars for Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role respectively.

I was surprised with the movie The Social Network, a film based on the life of Mark Zuckermann, inventor of online social network Facebook. The movie received recognitions for Film Editing, Original Score, and Adapted Screenplay, winning more awards than Black Swan and Alice in Wonderland, two early Oscars favorites. In a Better World of Denmark was the Best Foreign Language Film. Toy Store 3 was Oscars’ Best Animated Featured Film and Best Original Song for We Belong Together. Natalie Portman was Oscars’ Best Actress in a Leading Role.
