Long before CSI, Criminal Minds, Without a Trace and other crime drama series, there was Hawaii Five-O. I guess today’s youth are but familiar with the team music but during the days of Hawaii Five-O, the show reined on TV. I can vividly remember the opening sequence of the show and I know how to play the music on the beat box. The show ran for 12 years and in it was the character of Detective Danny Williams, more popularly known as Danno.
Danny Williams of Hawaii Five-O was played by James Macarthur. Williams was the sidekick to Steve McGarrett played by Jack Lord. Together they fight crime and syndicates, decided to keep the island at peace. And all the time when the bad guys were at hand, McGarrett would say, ‘Book ‘em, Danno.’
One of James Macarthur’s Hawaii Five-O favourite episodes was shown in 1975. His mother in real life Helen Hayes worked with him as a guest actor. He said that it was on very rare occasions that it happens, and so that particular episode was close to his heart. James Macarthur was considered energetic and brought a lot of his valour and brilliant imagination to the show. During the high times of the show, Hawaii Five-O was broadcasted to over 80 countries
After Hawaii Five-O aired it last episode on April 4, 1980, James Macarthur continued his career on screen and did various business endeavours. James Macarthur would have been 73 on his December birthday. But on October 28, 2010, James Macarthur bid farewell to the spotlights. Only last month CBS launched its new version of Hawaii Five-O. I do hope that James Macarthur got to enjoy this new version before passing on and joining other Hawaii Five-O actors who passed on before him.
James Macarthur died of natural causes, leaving his wife, four children, six grandchildren and millions of fans.
