Skywatchers, pseudo scientists and like species, don’t stay up late. Wake up during the wee hours of the morning and catch the Leonid meteor shower. Scientists say that the meteor shower is happening tonight until morning and the best time for the showdown is at 2.40 AM, when the moon sets on the horizon. With a clear sky, we would be able to see one of nature’s spectacular displays of beauty.

So, what should we expect from the meteor shower tonight? Expect to be awed by the lights as if they were peas. These are actually dusts from a comet named Tempel-Turtle.

The best thing about watching meteor showers is that you don’t need to be a scientist and have gazillions of gadgets to see them. You can just go on a good spot where you can take as much of the sky and lie down. No special specs or telescope even. Just let your eyes adjust to the dark as it always will. This might be the last chance to ever get a view of the meteor shower for November 17 is its peak. 20 meteors are expected to spring across the sky in every hour. Now, that’s what I call impressive.

Sad part is, some areas would have a bit of a drizzle and that would make viewing the meteor shower less probable, maybe even impossible. But for the rest of you who have clear skies and able to wake up early… enjoy yourselves! Don’t forget to take some pictures! In case you have kids you don’t want to wake up at 2 in the morning.

The Leonid meteor shower is considered as the most stunning meteor showers. No wonder it earned the title ‘King of Meteor Shower’. And the Leonid’s most recent spectacular celestial display was in 2002 when it was not just a meteor shower but a storm, with thousands of meteors on its peak.
