Nine years after 9/11 and the pain remains. And there won’t be enough memorials and services for the September 11 attacks that can eliminate the pain. Truly, the September 11 attack is one unfortunate event that not only the US will remember but the whole world as well.

To recall, the September 11 attacks not only damaged three buildings from the World Trade Center Complex but many buildings in the vicinity. And most importantly, the many lives claimed by the attacks. All passengers, crew and hijackers of the four aircrafts were killed, 246 in all. 2,606 lives were lost in New York and 125 in Pentagon. And of all these numbers 55 were military men. Hundreds were killed on impact, others trapped in the buildings when the buildings collapsed and some suffered diseases related to dust and smoke from the debris of 9/11. Rescuers, paramedics and fire fighters lost almost 500 from their ranks.

Following the September 11 attacks, economy went down, crackdown on terrorists were conducted worldwide, almost 20,000 small businesses closed rising unemployment incredibly.

To commemorate the 9/11 incident, a number of physical memorials were elected on different sites. The Tribute in Light was the first major one, and it is located at the World Trade Center site. Overlooking downtown Manhattan is the 9/11 memorial in Bayonne, New Jersey, the To Struggle Against World Terrorism. A mural dedicated to the fire rescuers of New York is stated also at the World Trade Center site. Around the US are still many 9/11 memorials; The Pentagon Memorial, in Arizona, Arlington National Cemetery, Texas State Cemetery and even in Israel where they erected a Twin Towers Memorial and many more.

But no matter how many 9/11 memorials there are, there won’t be enough show our gratitude to the men and women who were there to extend a helping hand and there won’t be enough to show grief for all those lives lost.
